    Advocacy
As a REALTOR®, you have so many demands on your time.  Between listing appointments, showings, paperwork to complete and advertising to place, how can you effectively keep up with real estate issues of concern that can impact your business and clients?  When you present contracts, the issues discussed at the county government center can cost your clients hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.  Each time your elected officials vote on real estate issues, they either put money into or take money out of your pockets
Responding to the continued stream of views expressed over the proposed Bay Act regulations, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors (LCBOS) agreed to delay consideration of a Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act Ordinance proposal until Tuesday, September 21st to allow time to conduct outreach efforts in the community.  The LCBOS began moving forward with the Bay Act regulation proposal in late in 2008.  In response to less-than positive feedback received from the public and Homeowner Associations (HOAs), in particular, at a May public hearing on the issue, the LCBOS will conduct outreach meetings in several communities and with HOAs who were not part of the original stakeholder group on this issue.

Governor McDonnell recently approved regulations overriding the Loudoun County ban on alternative septic systems and implementing new maintenance requirements for these systems. During DAAR's Public Policy Forum,  Bob Lee, Manager, Policy Development and Environmental Research, Loudoun County Environmental Health, discussed this important issue before a full audience on Monday, June 28th.  Read the presentation and the new regulations.  Special thanks to The SES Companies for sponsoring the event.

NAR is working very closely with key Members of Congress on an extension of the June 30, 2010 deadline for closing contracts eligible for the Homeowner Tax Credit. NAR is pursuing all possible options with senior congressional staff to determine what other legislation may be available for passing a June 30 extension.  Each of the possible options face difficult obstacles, but NAR's efforts to clear the way are on going.  As reported earlier this week, the extension was included in a large unemployment benefits measure that was defeated by the Senate on Thursday, June 25th.

Each year, on the first of July, the various laws passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor take effect. The Virginia Association of REALTORS®, in concert with several local association of REALTORS®, including DAAR, had a hand in a number of important pieces of legislation that affect our members and the real estate industry.
Loudoun County Supervisors heard opposition on the proposed Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act regulations from the majority of speakers who participated in the Monday, May 24th public hearing on the issue.   DAAR launched www.ChesBayAlert.com and a series of newspaper ads in the eastern and western part of the County designed to raise awareness of the Loudoun Board of Supervisor's plan to voluntarily implement the regulations which affects every property in Loudoun County.
